Normandie is a vast region known for its cities such as Rouen, Etretat and Deauville. But the region offers many other treasures that deserve your visit! Small romantic and picturesque villages with a beautiful seaside I want to highlight and recommend you for a romantic journey with your loved one!
I will present you my journey and the villages I have visited. It can give you some ideas as a starting point but you can also go and discover by yourself. You will surely find other lovely places that I don’t even know yet. :)
I went early in the morning, in order to avoid traffic jam, it tooks me around 2h30 to arrive to… Varengeville.
Varengeville is a small but very authentic village between the seaside and the countryside, perfect for long strolls and pleasant walk. I was pleasantly surprised by how the village is well-maintained and made to receive tourists: corlorful flowerbeds, a charming city center, a wifi zone, parks and touristics sites well indicated.
During the day, I visited such as:
EGLISE SAINT VALERY and it’s breathtaking view!
LE BOIS DES MOUTIERS , a peaceful park with numerous varieties of flowers and trees.
LA MAISON DE JULES, small coffee shops where the Capuccino and Ice-Cream were delicious
MAISON BOIVIN, the Bakery in the city center: éclair au chocolat, religieuse and glan where outstanding! And it’s a French person who tell you that so you can trust me :)
BEACH OF POURVILLE-SUR-MER, near Varengville, a vast beach with a stunning panorama of the streep cliffs.
HOW TO GO? Going by car is the only way if you want to visit the small villages as I did.
If you wish to discover other medium/big cities you have the possibility to go by train from Paris.
By car it will take you 2h30. Be careful if you take the highway there are tolls.
HOW LONG? The idea is really to have a relaxing and romantic weekend so 2 days is perfect. Do not feel pressured to be fast, take your time and stop when you feel like. As it’s not far from Paris, you will have the possibility to come back and to visit more Normandie another time.
WHEN? Go early in the morning. Normandie is the favorite place for all the Parisians for the weekend, so traffic jams are regular especially during the high season (june to august)
WHERE TO SLEEP? I stayed for one day, so I haven’t experience hostel there. However, I know there are a few hostels along the coast. A bedroom with a sea view is highly recommended for a romantic weekend!
WHERE TO EAT? Personally, I brought some picnic to eat it while enjoying the stunning view! But from what I saw, the restaurant “L’auberge du Relais” near the city center looks really great and was full at the time I passed by. I would have eaten there if I didn’t bring something. The prices seemed a little high but the area was nice with a beautiful terrace.
In a next article, I will bring you back to Normandie and this time I will talk about the mythic city of Deauville. So stay tune!
